In this essay I will be writing about a book published in 1976 called Roll Of Thunder Hear My Cry.The author of the book is Mildred D Taylor, she was born in Jackson Mississippi in the USA. Mildred D Taylor studied  in university, the blacks past. She got inspired by the book from her own child hood, she grew up with two brothers and no sisters.she  graduated at the university of Toledo, after that she then went on to write a book called roll of thunder hear my cry.

The book is based on a little girl called Cassie Logan who is trying to fight for her rights. She lives in a family of seven their names are Stacy,Christopher John, little man, mama, big ma.I will show you how this family got discriminated from the rest of the black folks in Jackson Mississippi. Many of her works are based on stories of her family that she had whilst growing up.The scene is set in Ohio in the great depression times.

One of the biggest issues with discrimination is the share cropping. Share cropping is when a black person will work for someone white doing the crops , the white person pay them back with staying in a home. After that the person goes off and sells the crops.

A main piece of discrimination in this story is when Mr Harlem Granger fires Cassie’s mum.He only fired her because T.J got caught cheating in a test and then went of and told a whole complete different story.Mr Granger already wanted to fire her because she fought for equality and for every one to have the same books.

Another interesting thing is that, there was a very big commotion in the Wallace store when the shop keep was taking advantage of the fact that Cassie was black and a little kid. This led to white people pushing in front of her. Cassie is then force to take action in her on hands but then the shop keeper shouts”get out you little nigga.”so then with that statement big ma tells Cassie that she should not do anything stupid because she knows the consequences.

This is another great example in the book when they are in the Barnett store. The incident occurs when Mr Barnett serves white people instead of them they are furious and decide to storm out but then T.j shows them something fascinating”you guys come quick there is something there.”He showed them the gun.

I found this book really interesting it is a book of loyalty respect and discrimination. You  can really tell how Cassie had to fight for her rights and how she had to deal with racist comments every where she goes.It came to a point where she got forced to leave the shop, her brother refused but she forced him then they left the city.Basically the whole family had to deal with discrimination one way or the other.

This is the conclusion to the essay is that they have been in ups and downs but long as they stay as a family there nothing that can get in there way. They are a symbol of hope that one day there will be equality with black and white people, there will one day be equality with in the black and white people. The Jim crow law will be disbanded so that so can live in peace and equality.
